Antifriction and Schaeffler
Antifriction is proud to be an authorised distributor of world-leading bearing manufacturer, Schaeffler. The company was established more than 70 years ago by brothers Wilhelm and Georg Schaeffler.
Today Schaeffler’s headquarters are still in Herzogenaurach in Bavaria, but the company itself has expanded to include around 200 offices in 50 countries across the world.
Schaeffler started out manufacturing its very own cage-guided needle roller bearing, which was designed by Georg Schaeffler himself. Since then the manufacturer has gone on to produce a huge range of high-tech bearings for the automotive and industrial markets.
High-tech bearings
Today Schaeffler offers a full catalogue of roller and plain bearings, from angular contact ball bearings to needle roller bearings and tapered roller bearings. Schaeffler designs and develops bearings for the automotive industries. The manufacturer produces bearings for engine, transmission and chassis applications, catering for all types of engine including internal combustion, hybrid and electric, it also makes parts for automotive repairs.
As well as producing parts for the automotive industry, Schaeffler manufactures industrial parts, including bearings for manufacturing machinery, as well as direct drive technology, such as monorail guidance systems and shaft guidance systems.

Innovating for the future
Schaeffler understands that research and development is key to keeping the manufacturing industry moving forward. Currently Schaeffler has around 8,000 employees working on developing new technologies at 20 research centres around the world. In fact, in 2022 the company submitted a significant 1,250 patent applications!
A recent example of Schaeffler’s innovations is smart factories. Schaeffler is currently working on developing self-controlled production plants. These plants would still need human employees, but the jobs would be different. Jobs would be less strenuous and monotonous and instead be about monitoring production. We’re excited to see how Schaeffler’s technologies develop and will continue to offer the innovative manufacturers’ high quality products.
